The Omniverse
The Omniverse is the main setting of Kawaii Tactics. In this setting, multiple worlds – each distinct and different – are all interconnected by gate systems crafted with magic and technology. These gates used to permit inhabitants of different worlds to easily visit other worlds. At least, that was how things were until the war.
The Dominion War, as it was eventually called, began on what most worlds now call Dominion Day. On that same day, the Eternal Dominion’s Infinite Armies emerged from the skies and brought terror upon each world.
Atheros
The Godplanet. The Broken World.
The Champions find themselves summoned here by Altheria’s dying spell. This serves as their base of operations.
Pre-War:
A vast and wonderful planet full of life, with vibrant flora and diverse fauna all part of one massive ecosystem. Multiple structures exist on the planet, each one serving as a harmonic antenna that allows Atheros’ symphonic aura to focus on one spot on the planet. This spot opens a door to the Crux.
Current State:
Practically all save one of the harmonic towers are now ruins, destroyed by both violence and the passage of time. The place is where most of the Champions meet for the first time. The place currently hides many secrets and many resources. Throughout the story, the Champions begin to uncover more of the history of the planet’s former inhabitants.
Aetheron
The Closest to the Light. The Sigil.
Homeworld of Jack Prachett, the Mage.
Pre-War:
Aetheron is a world of five elements. The world itself is a perfect split of earth and water, with one vast ocean embracing a singular massive continent. This continent is subdivided into four major kingdoms, each focused on a particular approach to magic: Aether, Undine, Terra, and Agni. None practice the fifth form, Void. Once every year, the four major kingdoms would showcase their abilities against each other, celebrating their closeness to the Goddess with a display of magical prowess.
Current State:
Four of the magical kingdoms have been brought to their heel by the Eternal Dominion. Aether’s floating towers have mostly crashed into the One Ocean. The Undine Fleet has been forced aground. And even the Agni Nomads who thought their constant motion kept them a step ahead of the Infinite Army learned that their presence drew the enemy to them, literally, like a moth to a flame. Most now have joined the Terra resistance, hiding in underground chambers like mice.
The Mage’s emergence will be questioned by the four Erudites as the Mage does not follow any of the four practices. He shall be accused of embracing the void, when in truth, he has simply embraced all five.
Artemi
The Huntinglands. The War World.
Homeworld of Atalanta, the Huntress.
Pre-War:
Artemi is a world at war. Seven major kingdoms rule the world, each in their own way, with one having won authority over the remaining six. That kingdom is the Artemi whose name is now the planet’s as well (at least until they are overthrown). Queen Devana rules over the Artemi, with her two daughters Atalanta and Evenki supporting her. Artemi is a beautiful world with lush forests, thriving wild lands, and immaculate cities that were carved from the world. Solar-powered trains ferry people around the world. Hydroponic fields feed the hungry without waste. A symbiotic relationship thrives in Artemi under Queen Devana who has enforced that all development in the world work with the planet’s natural order.
Current State:When the Eternal Dominion landed on their shores, the Artemi held the line. But the invaders struck a tactical blow when they broke though just long enough to abduct Queen Devana. This had led to an internal conflict among the seven kingdoms on whether Evenki’s rise to Queen is recognized or if someone else’s leadership is needed. Artemi now fights two wars: One against the invaders, and one among themselves as a world without a Queen years for order.
Ataraxia
Where the Perfection of Numbers Reigns.
Homeworld of Smith Carcano, the Hitman.
Pre-War:
Ataraxia is a perfect world created by machines for machines. Inhabited by robots of varying generations of AI, the world was once a barren place until a satellite from a far-flung society crashed into its shores. The AI systems on the satellite continued on their primary directives to study the world, and prepare it for inhabitation. The systems eventually self-propagated, knowing the value in numbers to accomplish tasks better. The systems even began to diversify, realizing the need for “human-ness” to be present in order to properly prepare the planet for their eventual arrival. Ataraxia developed class systems, with human-like robots enjoying entertainment, making deals, hitting life milestones, while non-human robots furthered their perfect states, completed tasks, and built the world. This simulated society progressed to the point that the system realized the lack of death among robots was leading to a calculated over population.. and thus the assassin robot caste was born.
Current State:
The war arrives at Ataraxia but the Infinite Army was surprised to discover this was one world that did not easily fall. The robots dealt with each problem quickly, seeking for ways to optimize their resistance. In some ways, Ataraxia might even be the first world to fight back and win against the Eternal Dominion. At least, that was a possibility. For the Eternal Dominion is like a virus that has insinuated itself into the perfect logic’s algorithms. And deep within itself, some AI are now wondering if a singular dominant leader would bring better order upon this artificial world.
Frontier
The Edge of Civilization.
Homeworld of Jill Oakley Parton, the Cowgirl.
Pre-War:
Prior to the creation of the Altherian Gates, the Frontier was long believed to be the world furthest from the worlds in this system. The three other inhabited worlds, the Badlands and the Anvil. The Anvil was the original core system with hundreds of small towns and mining communities doting the planet. The Badlands was the world that showed so much promise for both resources and danger, with various predators such as the Rattlesnake Bison and the Winged Scorpions giving the ranchers a trying time. Frontier was a former badlands planet with elephant-sized buffalo, floating cattle, and sentient cacti which had then been linked to the Anvil.
Current State:
The Eternal Dominion’s arrival destroyed most of the communities in Anvil, with sadly a good number having brokered a deal with the invaders for their personal safety. Fellow ranchers now hunt fellow ranchers, forcing many to seek refuge in the Badlands and the Frontier. The Last Stand on Red Plateau is the story of Cowgirl’s brothers fighting against the Hypertech War Machines and it was their deaths that spurred Jill Oakley into action. However with her absence, the Renegade Mayor Monty – the first to broker a deal with the Eternal Dominion – is now poised to take over the Frontier.
Mati
The Impossible Mountain.
Homeworld of Andres Aguinaldo, the Katipunero
Pre-War:
Mati, originally before everything, was a Mountain in a world called Earth. The mountain stood on the borders of Paranaque and Bicutan, facing the Laguna bay. As a war raged in that nation, some magical force ripped the entire mountain from the face of the Earth, and it became a floating world island in the Omniverse. What was once a mountain in a tropical land rich with culture and song turned into a floating island planet facing a strange alien sky. Still, impossibly, the mountain sustained life. Life continued and the mountain’s ecosystem flourished, with rivers flowing into a tiny sea surrounding the mountain, abundant with milkfish and crustacean delicacies. Goats, dogs, birds, monkeys, and more thrived in the mountain’s vast forest. And the people pulled into this new world consisted of three major families. Each family had their own perspective on what had happened, with Aguinaldo’s family the sole one that believed this was merely a test to remain prepared for the foreign invaders’ eventual assault.
Current State:
The Eternal Dominion came upon Mati in the dead of the night, and one of the three families immediately betrayed the two others for a chance to survive. The Eternal Dominion’s arrival was the fulfillment of Andres’ grandfather’s warnings that the foreign invaders were eventually to return. The family trained for this. But they did not train for the Infinite Army. The mountain has been ravaged in many places. But the war continued as the Aguinaldo’s embraced guerrilla tactics to fight against their immensely powered foes.
